Don’t leave home with out it

Just back from an overnight in the backcountry. First time using the Carbon Fiber pole vs my hiking poles.

Pros:

• excellent fabrication no sharp edges

• strong shock cord

• options for height depending on your needs

• 4.75 of of 5 for ease of use

What would make it better

• make it easy to know where the spring loaded pin is in the extendable section. When extending the extension section, it’s hard to tell where the pin might be because everything is black. I’m going to modify mine and make a guide with some white paint.

The ground was a little soft last night (winter thaw) so used my sit pad of all things keep the pole from sinking any further. I cut the bottom off of a Pringles chip can - it’s light and flat - to use in the future when needed.

Great addition to the gear list. I’m not bothered by the extra weight.

Solid Support for a Solid Shelter

Loved it. Finally got to use the HMG Ultamid 4 and the new pole. Bought the tent last May for winter camping. Finally got snow. I bought the pole because I know there will be times I will be set more than one night and I’d need my poles during the day. It’s 10.325 ounces. Do the weight penalty is nominal.

It’s really well built. The extension feature works great. We set up on minimal snow. Basically ground with a bit of snow. I’ll need to bring a small playform, snow basket or something for setting up on deeper snow. Again, could use a shovel but I might need it too.

Highly recommend the pole. And one of the Mid’s. We got the 4 to have more space with minimal weight penalty.
